Marine Technical Survey at Time of Repair
Observater Surveys was entrusted with conducting ship condition and technical surveys at one of our active ports in Africa during a generator engine repair. We ensured that all equipment used complied with statutory regulations. Tests were conducted in our presence, and the generator was successfully synchronized to the synchronization panel.
We had insightful discussions with the vessel’s chief engineer regarding the events leading up to the planned repairs. Additionally, we assessed the crew’s experience during the voyage. It was gratifying to learn that all crew members had invested time in understanding the onboard safety protocols. We commend the designers of the STCW program, as without it, ensuring onboard safety could have been challenging and potentially dangerous.
We also collaborated with the engine component manufacturer to ensure that sufficient supporting materials were provided for future maintenance programs. Although the vessel’s chief engineer had already made this request, we felt it necessary to emphasize its importance because, at Observater, we never compromise on safety.
The survey concluded with enriching discussions on local culture, where we learned a great deal about South Korean culture. It felt like a virtual visit to South Korea, complemented by a cup of excellent Ethiopian coffee and some fine Indonesian tea.
At Observater, we are always ready to undertake technical inspections and superintendence
