Observater Surveys and Services Group · Zimbabwe · Harare • Bulawayo • the Beira, Durban, and Walvis Bay corridors
Independent cargo surveys for Zimbabwe at the border posts, the inland depots, and the receivers’ premises in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, and the mining and farming districts: count, condition, and custody recorded where the cargo reaches you, reconciled with the record made at Beira, Durban, Maputo, or Walvis Bay, by our own locally based surveyor.
Instruct the Desk WhatsAppIn one paragraph
Observater cargo surveyors in Zimbabwe verify the count, condition, and custody of cargo where it enters the country and where it is delivered, at Beitbridge, Forbes, Chirundu, and Plumtree, at the inland container depots, and at the receivers’ premises in Harare and Bulawayo, so that shortage, damage, and quality disputes on a landlocked leg are settled on evidence rather than on the account of whoever drove the truck. Observater Surveys and Services Group is an independent, ISO 9001-certified marine and cargo survey practice operating from its own offices and desks across East, Southern, Central, and West Africa; Zimbabwe is attended by our own locally based surveyor, with our Mozambique and South African offices attending the port end of the same file, and instructions answered 24 hours a day.
Zimbabwe’s imports have crossed a port and a border before anyone in the country sees them. Fuel, fertilizer, wheat, rice, machinery, vehicles, and consumer goods arrive by road and rail through Forbes from Beira, through Beitbridge from Durban, through Chirundu from the north, and through Plumtree from Botswana and Walvis Bay, and the shortage or the damage found at a depot in Harare has by then passed a terminal, a haulier or a railway, and a border yard, each with its own record. Outbound, tobacco from the auction floors, cotton, sugar, ferrochrome, nickel and platinum-group concentrates, granite, and horticulture leave the same way, and the certificate a buyer pays against is only as good as the inspection behind it.
Our surveyor attends at the point that matters for the question being asked: the border where custody changes hands, the inland depot or rail siding where containers are devanned, the tobacco floor, the mine, or the farm where exports are loaded, and the receiver’s premises where the count is reconciled. The discharge port is attended through our Mozambique and South African desks, so one instruction can cover the whole route and the port outturn, the corridor leg, and the delivery are read by one desk against one file.
Containers and trucks opened under supervision at Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, and the inland depots: seals verified before cutting, contents counted out against the packing list, damage recorded in place before anything moves.
Seal checks and condition records at Beitbridge, Forbes, Chirundu, and Plumtree and at the transit yards, so that the leg on which a shortage or a damage entered can be identified from the record.
Tobacco, cotton, sugar, concentrates, granite, and horticulture inspected and certified at the floor, the plant, or the loading point, in the form the contract or the credit prescribes.
Rice, wheat, fertilizer, and sugar tallied at the depot and the receiver’s warehouse, torn and wet bags recorded with weights, the delivery reconciled against the port outturn.
Damage to machinery, vehicles, mining equipment, and packaged goods recorded where it stands, cause and custody established for the receiver’s or the insurer’s file.
Counts and condition checks over goods in warehouses, silos, and yards for traders and the banks financing them, on the cadence the facility requires.
Regular import or export flows attended as programs, with the same checklist and report format from the port to the delivery point.
A cargo interest instructing a survey in Zimbabwe is usually a border and a time zone away from the cargo. The first account of a loss arrives from the haulier or the receiver, the photographs have no date, and by the time the file is opened the container has been emptied. We are built to close that distance: our surveyor named on the instruction is the surveyor on site and reachable while the attendance runs; a preliminary with dated photographs goes out from the site or that evening where communications allow; the appointing firm abroad is copied on every report and its client is not approached; and the report is written for the reader who was not there.
An independent count and condition record at the point the cargo reaches you, so that the discharge port outturn, the road leg, and the delivery can be read against one file.
Attendance arranged as soon as the instruction arrives, at the border, the depot, or the receiver’s premises, with a report written for the underwriter who was not there.
Pre-shipment inspection and certificates issued in the form the contract or the credit prescribes, at the plant or the loading point.
Counts and condition checks over financed goods and stock in Zimbabwe, reported to the financier first.
Attendance in your name at the depot or the border, with the appointing firm copied on every report.
Where a matter is urgent, a preliminary note with photographs goes out from the site or that evening where communications allow.
The surveyor’s name, the dates and places of attendance, the parties present, the method, the findings kept separate from the conclusions, photographs placed in time, and the working annexed.
Where a contract, letter of credit, or Club instruction prescribes the form of a certificate, we issue it in that form; what it states is what we found.
